Re: Article 13 and Article 11

Doesn't it seem to you that primary schools, middle schools and high schools, when teaching science, for every topic, either they don't teach it at all, or they teach students just enough for them to get into trouble? The goal is to get them interested in the subjects so they'll learn more later, a...

Re: Hi from NYC

Welcome, pretty amazing your professor showed Earthlings.
That recidivism story isn't uncommon: It can be tricky to stay vegan without some nutrition knowledge. Merely removing meat usually leaves people hungry if they don't find plant protein to replace it with. Glad you're making it work now!

Re: hi I'm not a ukulele.

That's a tricky situation vikpugs, will you be moving out soon? What might work is if you make requests rather than reject things: e.g. ask for something positively rather than saying what you don't want. There may still be some meat in it, but you can probably request traditional dishes with protei...

Re: Hey Everybody

Welcome teddyfloss, There are some theories about animal products promoting insulin resistance you might want to look into (right now it's speculation, but there are some pretty strong correlations and some possible mechanisms). For sure a low carb diet is a good idea, but so far the evidence seems ...

Re: What kind of water do you drink?

I am not very handy but labor is cheap down here so it's definitely worth looking in to. If I were in your position I'd have my house totally tricked out. Rain water harvesting (if it rains a lot there), greywater system, solar water heating. Anything environmentally friendly that would save money.

Re: What kind of water do you drink?

Jebus This site has some good images: http://www.roofwaterharvesting.org/the_rest_mobile.html It's about roof water harvesting rather than unclean tap water, but similar principles. Interesting recommendations on UV sanitization. Also, if your tap water is chlorinated it could affect slow sand effi...

Re: What kind of water do you drink?

What's the nature of the contamination? Don't know. Probably nothing too serious although authorities recommend to avoid drinking it after heavy rainfall. Sounds like microbial or sewage contamination from storm water overflow. In that case, a slow sand filter should be fine. It's cheap, can be mad...

Re: Article 13 and Article 11

Anyway, the study you cite mentions South Korea as an example of a good education system. Where does that come from? South Korean schools are widely criticized for being insanely hard, and for teaching no skills that would help students later in life, or even making students understand the curricul...
