Ah, it didn't show up in the wiktionary, but there's a pic of beetles on wikimedia named bubice. Looks like the ladybug is a bubamara: buba ‎("bug") +‎ Mara ‎("Mary"). So if buba means bug, what does -ice refer to in bub-ice? Oh, I see they define buba elsewhere as beetle or bug.

"Buba" means "an insect with hard wings", "-ic" is the diminutive suffix, and "-e" is the nominative plural suffix for the e-declension (similarly, the nominative plural of "godina" is "godine").

Oh yeah, insekt... some synonyms I found were for bubica and bubice, listed on the Serbo-Croatian (srpskohrvatski) wiktionary, instead of the Croation version. It was a reverse lookup from translations of beetle (insect > buba > insekt > sinonimi) on the English wiktionary. So this language has two dictionaries there!

Thanks for that explanation also. Maybe I'm about as clear as mud on this stuff, but we're talking about bugs anyway.

Have you seen the videos I've published in Latin? I think you will like that stuff.

Croatian grammar is quite a bit more similar to Latin grammar than to English grammar.

Actually, I was looking at the definition of da as a conjunction, where it can have numerous meanings, and it looks like you're referring to it as a particle (which is listed below those)... I didn't even notice that one (since da was linked from "the", which was apparently used in place of da as a conjunction).

I remember that song, da da da though, it probably meant yeah yeah yeah (or make that uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh)...

Against my desires I am having to go to Google translator to translate messages to me, that I don't know why I keep getting, but I did initiate communication through a medium because this person came up in a very specific search I made for an interest. I did not know I was going to get responses not in English but in a foreign language I don't understand at all.
