Turned atheist first, then vegan.

Post by chandlerklebs »

I first admitted to myself I was an atheist back in the Summer of 2013. I could not see any plan or purpose at all in the world and didn't see a reason to even claim it was designed with humans in mind. Also learned a bit about evolution in spite of my mother's protest against it. I was homeschooled and with almost exclusively Christian materials. It's a wonder I got out but there were many things that made me question the morality of Christianity before I had any logic.

I generally tend to agree with vegan atheists since they are already generally anti-violence. Since violence is part of the meat, dairy, egg, and other businesses, it also makes sense that people willing to question this are also against the violence caused by religious beliefs. Is that how those of you on this forum feel?

Welcome, although you didn't really introduce yourself. Religious violence is the main reason I am an antitheist, but the reason I am atheist is due to lack of evidence of a creator.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Welcome chandlerklebs.

That might describe some. But I think most of us are atheists because we understand the typical concept of "god" to be irrational and logically incoherent.
The reason we choose reason may be morality, though; a moral person has a responsibility to be rational, and objectively evaluate truth claims in order to behave consistently with the reality we live in.

Welcome to the forum, Chandlerklebs. I hope to see you provide your insights in our discussions in the future. Always a pleasure to meet another vegan.

I'm a vegan because I acknowledge and respect the interests of animals to avoid suffering, continue living, be with their loved ones (so fuck the dairy industry), and not be confined; and I see insufficient justifications for any of these atrocities which we humans cause.

Furthermore I'm deeply concerned about the severe environmental impact of animal agriculture, so that's my secondary reason.

Thirdly I have an interest in nutrition and healthy living. I am however vegan primarily for the animals, and I'd stick with it even if I didn't care about my health.

I'm an atheist because I don't see sufficient (or any) reason to believe in the existence of an intelligent universe-creator. I also find the most common portrayals of "God" or "gods" to be irrational and logically incoherent.

I feel the same as you do about the animals being the primary reason. Even if it had no health benefit, it would still be so important to avoid cruelty the the animals that buying animal products necessarily includes.

I think there are tons of atheists that find the concept of god incoherent, but they generally think that religion is harmless and don't ever challenge it. I challenge it on moral grounds and not because I'm picky about what goes on in other people's heads.
