Favorite Linux Distros

Post by Neptual »

Personally I don't use Linux as much as I used to, and only really use them when I have a junk pc/laptop sitting around. So here's my top 5 list feel free to input some of your favorites as well.

1. Loonix
2. xUbuntu
3. OpenSuse
4. Elementary OS
5. Fedora

I think I would place Ubuntu first. Not sure I would use Gnome 3, Unity and all that kind of stuff. There are some folks that continued developing on Gnome 2 (Edit: Ubuntu Mate would be an option). Xubuntu would also be a possibility.

When I first heard about Elementary OS I was really interested, but it was just getting started. I haven't followed the development process, but if it's now more mature, I would absolutely love this OS.

I'm not a big fan of KDE, so I wouldn't enjoy using a OS like OpenSuse for a longer period.

That's fine, it's a personal decision. I do feel though that Linux does deserve much more than that. It a complete system that would be enjoyable on a more expensive computer as well. If I didn't have Macs—and this is my personal decision—I would definitely install Linux on my PCs instead of Windows. Also for server activities my first thought would go to Linux.

my favorite distro and the one I have been using for years is openSuSE.
Unlike Volenta, I love KDE so openSuSE makes perfect sense for me, as it is the ruler of KDE distros IMHO.

I love Linux and have been fortunate enough to be able to use it for all activities I do with computers, gaming included - although I am not that much of the gamer type, except for 1 or 2 specific programs that I need to run via a Windows VM, when I need to.
