The Loudspeaker War?

Post by woohoousername »

So, Kim Jong Un has ordered his soldiers to be on war footing and declared a semi-state of war over loudspeakers. I find it odd that the DPRK are so worried about the counter-propaganda from the South despite the fact no-one lives near the border and I don't think DPRK citizens could do anything about either way. It lead to artillery shelling form both sides and a new wave of DPRK rants towards 'Murica. The USA is far from my favourite country, but they would smash the DPRK if it ever came to it. So, any thoughts or opinions concerning 'The Loudspeaker War?' Frankly, I'd love to hear it, leave it below.

I see everything they do as posturing, so I don't worry about it. They aren't suicidal Islamic extremists; this is a totalitarian state, ultimately headed by people with the capacity to reason (although they like to make it look like they aren't reasonable, in order to pull off their bluffs).

North Korea relies on its friendship with China, which it would lose the moment they committed a serious act of aggression.
Without that, and with any provocation to war, the current regime would be eliminated; by land from the South (in a joint coalition) and the Northern border with support from China, and with air and sea support mainly from the U.S.

North Korea could destroy itself with Nuclear weapons (if they were suicidal), but their army has no means to deliver payloads at any significant distance, or avoid anti-missile defense systems. And they don't likely* have the means to smuggle these weapons into other countries for acts of terrorism.

In terms of technology, they are many decades behind. It doesn't matter how big your standing army is if you're using primitive weapons and have nowhere to go. An assault on the South would just be a mass suicide.

The risk of biological and chemical weapons is more significant against civilians, but again we're talking short range.

*That said, I'd still be a little wary of living in a border city.
