Hello, all

Post by Kyron »

Hey, Vegan Atheist Forum, my name is Kyron.

I'm currently 19 years old, and about to start a degree in Computer Character Animation. My interests inclu.... I like... Man, it's pretty hard to introduce yourself without making it look like a dating profile. Ha, ha. Anyway, other than animation, in my free time I like to (see what I mean.) learn programming languages, watch cartoons/educational-videos/documentaries and of course, rant online.

I've been watching Vegan Athiest's videos for quite some time. And even while I was still a meat-eater, I agreed with him and acknowledged that my diet was pretty shitty morally. For weeks every bite into a Tuna sandwich, Chicken Nugget etc. left me with a guilty pain in my throat. After messaging VA directly regarding some questions on Free Range Eggs, and after watching the 101 Reasons To Go Vegan (and meat.org) video(s), I told my parents there and then that I was going to start a vegan diet once I left home pretty soon, not to inconvenience my family. My mother's encouragement to "start now" was surprising to me. Although she thought it to be a bit extreme, she did not want me to leave the house clueless as what to buy, and to lose any more weight.

I've been Vegan for.. 7 months now and it's been a breeze for me. I overestimated how difficult a change in diet would be. The first few weeks were pretty tough in regards to learning what to eat. But I'm really comfortable checking ingredients and trying out new vegan foods. Originally, I was pretty weary of starting a vegan diet, as my BMI was pretty low. However, surprisingly, I've actually put on weight since starting my vegan diet. I can only assume due to being able to eat larger portions, and not suffering with indigestion as much. I'm now a pretty comfortable weight.

Not much of a story for me being Athiest. I was brought up in a household that didn't go to church, but believed in a Christian God (well... an afterlife, mostly.) but I didn't really learn anything about 'God' until I went to school. My public school actually had a reverend come in with a puppet, and had us singing songs about Jesus... Crazy times. All that stopped at high-school, where I started thinking for myself more and let go of the idea of an afterlife. I prefer basing my beliefs on evidence..

Anyway. I'm looking forward to joining in conversations and debates here. I hope you'll enjoy my company! (:

Side Note:
VA, if you're reading - Love the Metro theme for the forum, but, I'd like to give a design suggestion. It may look nicer to center and reduce the size of the logo. Here's an example of what that may look like: http://i.imgur.com/gnI5nH9.png - If you'd prefer that and need some code-help to change that. I'd be happy to direct you and give you the code to add.

Hi Kyron,
thanks for the great introduction, and welcome to the forum. Happy to hear that you have found use out of my videos.
In regards to the forum logo position, thanks for the suggestion, but I prefer where it currently is located.
Do you find the forum to be quiet and inactive?
- Do your part by engaging in new and old topics
- Don't wait for others to start NEW topics, post one yourself
- Invite family, friends or critics

Most non-vegans do/did, including myself.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Welcome Kyron, great intro! I hope you like it here.

It's great that your mother was so supportive, and you gained weight. I've heard that a few times (people who were underweight before, gaining on a vegan diet up to a more healthy weight).

Did you draw your avatar? I feel like I recognize it from somewhere, but I can't place it.

That's perfectly fine.

Thanks. (:
Ha, ha, I think, in the vegan community, there needs to be a lot more emphasis on how easy it is. A lot of people are put off by the challenge.

I'm liking it so far, thank you.

I agree. It was very surprising to me, I'm very grateful for her. Oh really? That's great. I hear a lot about how people can loose weight on a vegan diet, which, as someone who was on the other end, was like "That's the last thing I need." Ha, ha. There probably needs to be more clarification.

I did draw it. Heh, I think I only use it as my Skype avatar other than here, but I also have a deviantART (http://kyron-alex-taylor.deviantart.com/ Though I'm hardly active and there's bucket loads of outdated stuff there..) which I uploaded the full drawing to?

Welcome Kyron!
What programming languages do you currently know fluently? How would you recommend learning them?

Thanks ye, Cirion.
I'm very well accustomed to the following primarily web-programming languages: XML, HTML5, CSS3, Javascript (and AJAX), jQuery (though, that's more of a JS library rather than a language..), JSON, PHP5 and MySQL/MySQLi.
And I'm fairly alright using the following computer-programming languages: Python, C++ and Java. Python is definitely the easiest of those three, and I recommend learning that as your first computer-programming language.

Well, before you even try, keep this in mind; Don't learn a programming language for the hell of it. It's much easier when you have a goal or a project to work on. Programming languages are huge and you really don't need to learn everything to get started. Look up some tutorial on the basics of _______ to get you started, and then start your project. Once you get stuck (and you will... A lot. Even experts do.) use Google/Stack Overflow and find solutions to that problem. If you want specific resources, it depends what you want to learn, and how you learn best. If you want to learn a web-based language and learn best by reading, I suggest going through the tutorials on W3Schools to get you started. If you learn best by watching, there are plenty of videos on youtube, the most popular being TheNewBoston (who also teaches many programming languages too.
Once you get into it and learn a fair bit, it becomes more about learning to use third-party libraries and make everything less exhaustive.

In regards to the forum logo, what's your take on having a symbol for vegan (like the green V commonly used) http://elcigarrodevapor.com/wp-content/ ... symbol.png in addition to the red A atheist symbol?
