They recently updated the religion statistics, I think, and I think it's interesting. At first I was surprised to see the percentage of "unaffiliated" in the Netherlands had decreased by 4% (probably due to immigrants), but the second graph is extremely interesting. It seems only 17 percent of the 53% religious people actually believes in a god. Most people identify with either atheism, agnosticism or ietsism (there's probably something). The latter two groups still identify as christian/muslim/other too, which makes it seem like The Netherlands is way more religious than it is.

Some people really amaze me.

I was at my friend's birthday party, and her mother offered me butternut squash soup before she put the cream in. I asked her about the ingredients, and she listed some vegetables, spices, and vegetable broth (also an apple). I tried not to ask too many questions, because I didn't want to make vegans look paranoid/crazy, so I didn't ask to see the vegetable broth etc..

When I had it, it was kind of creamy, but I figured that was just the squash.

And it gave me a bit of a stomach ache (like when I accidentally ate a chocolate bar with butter), but I figured that was because of the spices, and/or the combination of vegetables and the apple that I wasn't really used to...

Then, later on, she offered me something else (was there awhile). She listed off the ingredients, and casually mentioned butter. I told her that I don't eat butter (not sure how she couldn't figure this out, when I said I don't eat dairy etc.).

"Oh, it's only like a teaspoon to saute the vegetables."

Anyway, then she stopped with that, and offered me rice. I asked if the rice was made with chicken broth or butter, and she said no, and that it was plain, multiple times.

But it was pretty obviously not plain when I had it. I don't think there was butter, because it wasn't moist like that, so... chicken broth? O_O
It kind of tasted like how chicken broth smells. But I already asked her if it had chicken broth a few times (I wanted to be safe because of the butter thing, and the soup), so I didn't question her about it...

And then, the dad offered me cake. o_O
I just said no thanks, and he asked if it was because of the milk, and I said yes.

If they couldn't figure out ice-cream cake = dairy, I just...

It's not like I said that I was vegan and didn't explain. I said that I don't eat animal products, which includes meat, dairy, and eggs. The dad told the mom this stuff too... >.<

Not sure what I'm supposed to do at things like this. If I ask specific questions, or ask the same question more than once, I run the risk of making veganism look crazy. But if I don't, then people don't think twice about giving me butter and ice-cream, and possibly chicken broth.

The best thing to do in these cases is to learn to cook, and bring food. Bring several really delicious dishes for everybody (enough that everybody can try them).

Nobody will complain, then, that you're not eating, and you get to do some food evangelism and share the recipes.

I found this little baby turtle lying on the road when walking home from school, eyes open, and moving a tad. I was worried the turtle got hit by a car or something, so I took him to my house and put him on this rock. In this picture, you might not be able to tell, but the turtle's eyes are open. They were closed for a bit before that though, and the turtle curled up his tail.

My parents won't take it to the vet (my dad says that the vet won't be able to do anything, because the turtle is small, and 'exotic'), and the vet isn't open right now anyway. Any input on what to do?

I should get the turtle water and food.

Update- The turtle was gone when I came back. Guess he was ok then.

It's funny that you mention that, because my family found a baby snapping turtle in our backyard, met brother wanted to keep it for a merit badge for Boy Scouts, but we decided to release it in the end.

In school today, we had the Club Fair, and there were a lot of interesting clubs.

I'm pretty torn between joining the Young Democrats and Science Olympiad (they're on the same day). I'm doing the Science Research club anyway, so maybe I should just do the Young Democrats club, because I'd still have a science club if I did. But I think Science Research is more a learning about science club, while Science Olympiad is a project competition, so they're not really interchangeable.

There was a Young Republicans club there, and I had a fun Q&A with them.
I was actually pretty surprised at how seemingly open-minded they are on some things. None of the ones there like Trump. They don't like Bernie Sanders either, though.

The one who was answering most of my questions said that he is very left on social issues, but very right on everything else, so he's semi-open minded. He supports money in politics, though. o_O

They said that they wouldn't just vote for whoever gets the Republican ticket, which really surprised me.

At first I couldn't find the Young Republicans club, but then I saw the Reagan picture...

Anyway, opinions on whether or not I should go with the Young Democrats or Science Olympiad?
