I Like *Some* Taylor Swift

Post by Red »

I know it's pretty much blasphemy if I were to say that I like any modern pop music, and if I were to say it, I'd be hanged from the highest tree. Now it may be a threat to my masculinity if I were to even suggest that I liked a pop song, or Gaben forbid, Taylor swift, who is arguable the current Queen of Pop. Regardless, I do enjoy some of her music. For instance, Blank Space I found catchy, Wildest Dreams has a solid beat, Shake it Off is a fucking ear worm (good luck getting that out of your head now), and I know I'm going to be defecated on by a lot of you by saying this, but I LIKE Bad Blood.. there I said it. Anywho, what's wrong with having a different taste in music? Don't get me wrong, I hate a lot of pop music these days. I mean, I still despise Nikki Minaj and the like. But what's wrong with liking something that a lot of people hate? For me, it's the same with Nickelback. I hate 90% of their music, but every now and again, they have a somewhat decent song to listen to. I guess since Taylor Swift is the Queen of Pop at the moment, she's a magnet for hate and she's been takin' shit left and right, even from other popular pop artists. Now granted, I don't like every song she made, (Like that Troble when You Walked in song), but for the most part, I like her music. Now you mofos can come at me, and you can say that I have shitty music taste, and that I should be drowned in someone's feces. But Taylor Swift isn't the only modern pop artist that has music I enjoy.. I like Imagine Dragons, One Republic, SOME eminem... uh... that's it. Anyway, what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with me? Do you think I should kill myself? Lemme know!!!!!!!!

Well, I don't really know who that is (I think I've heard the name), but enjoy the music you like, I guess. :)

Music taste is subjective. People who look down on other's music choices are being silly and irrational. I dare you to be a man and take off the "*Some*" qualifier on your title :P. It's like the "no homo" thing that went around a while back.

I give all music a fair shot these days, but not so long ago I was pretty judgemental. Around 2013 I created an exercise for myself to go through all the bands I used to look down on people for and try to find at least one song I genuinely like. If I hadn't done this I would never have found what I now consider to be my favorite genre of music (post-hardcore), and it turns out pop music like Rihanna and Miley Cyrus actually have quite a few songs I like despite my original reluctance to give them a chance.

It's strange how strong that bias can be for something as inconsequential(in the grand scheme of things) as music.

Is it a waste if he found ones he likes, or is it just the cost we have to pay to find good music (the time sorting through the bad)?

I wasn't saying you look down on other peoples music choices. I actually thought the point of your post was to break free from social bias and declare yourself as accepting of the outgroup no matter what people may think about it. Which is why I thought all the qualifiers you added worked counter to that point. The challenge was mostly just to liven things up and joke with you.

People who say " No homo" May infact be telling the truth, but just because it's accurate information doesn't justify it's use. The point of saying a qualifier like that it's to designate which group you would hate for people to think you are a part of. It's basically saying " But i swear i'm not one of them!" Which sort of ran counter to what I thought the core of your message was.

Also, I'm definitely not saying the *some* qualifier is in the same league as a homophobic slur.

I fail to see how that bears any relevance to the topic at hand.
