I only watch cartoons and documentaries when it comes to television. Every now and again I'll watch a comedy movie, but that's usually once in a blue moon. I always see people obsessing over shows like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad. I mean, I've never seen one episode of any live action show (bar Curb Your Enthusiasm), and anime I hardly have any idea as to what's going on 99% of the time. I will watch a Disney animated movie if it's on though ;) .

Yes, i've seen The Big Bang Theory, really good show, but it's not quite what i had in mind. I was looking for a show with a goal, like How I Met Your Mother, where the goel was to find Ted's wife.

If you decide to watch anime, there's a couple i'd like to recomend:
Code Geass
Death Note
Fullmetal Alchemist (Either the 2003 version or Brotherhood)
Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
And although it's not by all means a good anime, i'd suggest watching SAO, It has a lot of anime elements and can give you a good idea of what most animes are like. Plus, it's about videogames xD

Just a little piece of advice: Get away from the fanbase!!!
Anime is great, but it's fanbase kills it, it can most of the time turn people away from watching an anime. There are exceptions, like FMA's fanbase, but still xD

Arrested Development, Trailer Park Boys, Better Off Ted, Wilfred, Scrubs, That 70s Show, Archer, those are all on netflix.

On Hulu you shoud try Moon Beam City! (pretty much Archer but cheesey 80s style scifi)
