Evolution

Post by thetruemasterofgames »

I have heard alot of religious people say evolution is 100% fake but I want to hear their explanation behind the fossil records(yes I know we can't place an exact age from the fossils but we can generalize if they are older or not by the levels they go to) or the change in the common fruit fly from 2 wings to 4 and then a change to help them breath better after that
And before you make the "if we come from monkey's why are their still monkeys" its because evolution is from adaptions and mutations overtime if for example the apes we come from were in a hotter area it would explain hair loss and the ones in a colder area would stay the same or get hairier there are many factors that make evolution branch off in many ways
I am not saying you need to give up your beliefs I just want to see what your explanations are for this or thoughts to why
(I know I posted this before but feel it better to put here the in off topic)

The methodology they employ is nothing but blatant science denialism achieved through various disingenuous tactics that someone unfamiliar on it would need some experience to understand.

I recommend Aron Ra's "foundational falsehoods of creationism" series to get acquainted with their tactics and unsubstantiated beliefs. He's done a fairly good job on this. https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL126AFB53A6F002CC

I'm an Evolutionist Muslim. I do not contradict Evolution but in small areas which are to adapt the whole thing to my belief(I don't really believe in uncertainty for example). I hope that one day many muslims will consider thinking what I(or we) think.

I don't believe in coincidences(of all kinds). So, to me: Did everything evolve from simple life? Yes. Was it all just a coincidence? No. That's probably it really. Oh, and (we) was to imply that I'm not the only Evolutionist muslim, I'm just one of the few(?) I know. I believe that My religion does not and will not contract any logical/scientific things. If it does, than it may as well contradict itself. I question it and if it fails or doesn't, I won't lose anything. That might either support my faith, or take it all away. However, many muslims don't question the religion because they fear being wrong. I find it illogical to follow the words of people who do not know anything scientific(mullas and sheikhs and whatever(although there are still some sheikhs who know what they're talking about and thus I listen to them)), it is no different than what we're warned about of the past civilizations; "هذا ما وجدنا عليه اباءنا" "this is what we found our ancestors on"(sorry if I translated that terribly). I hate blind faith. I've just realized that I'm waay off topic at this moment :P sorry for that.

That is a significant improvement and is in fact what other communities have done like Roman Catholicism which is in acceptance of both evolution and the big bang theory. Sure they may say its God directed/planned in some abstruse nonscientific way but it is a very good step in the right direction and is in fact what others have advocated for in the Islamic and other contexts like Dawkins in this video

Science denialism is never a good thing, you may as well be denying that the earth revolves around the sun, which is what did happen in galilleos time. To any sensoble person, an anti evolutionist appears very similar . Liberalisation is very good both for the people in the community and the world and steps toward more rational values is necessary and should be encouraged. Others like maajid nawaz and even some ex Muslims have suggested exactly that.

Regarding faith, all faith is blind (a bit of an ableist language though) because by very definition it isn't based on evidence, it is belief despite lack of evidence and that is not scientific or a basis for believing anything at all. Feynman explains in short, the scientific method well here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OL6-x0modwY

BTW have you had an intro thread?

I very much agree with that.

I may have misworded what I meant with "blind faith"; What I meant was not questioning what you believe in terms of its contradiction to its own self etc. (I probably misworded this too) :P

About an intro thread: no, not yet. I made one with only half a paragraph of info, but realized that I should've written more, so i deleted it. I'll do one in the near future(I'm a little bit of a lazy person you see.)

And about the videos(sorry, I replied before watching them, so I'm now responding about them): That kind of school is now the problem we have in Islam. People knowing nothing are teaching everything. Science should be taught in schools and religion in temples and teachers should completely set aside their religious bias when teaching. I'm very lucky to attend a school where our teachers(all muslims) actually do so. Yes, they do reject evolution, but us the students' beliefs are no concern of theirs here(also, we don't have evolution in the curriculum itself). We are able to argue with them whenever we want and we do so quite often. I was mistaught my own religion! If it wasn't for a friend of mine who actually put effort into researching what he heard(something I didn't do at the time), I'd probably cross out the whole religion and suicide(which was why I tried to find flaws on the religion). For example: We're taught that married people who commit adultery must be stoned to death(something from a so-called hadith which was, supposedly, perfectly cited from the prophet 200years after his death), yet the Koran contradicts this in many many many verses. <--- that's just one example there.

The scientific method video: I loved it!

I am sort of like you I personally think there could be a god but there also could not be one no evidence one way or the other and as well we do not know if a god just set everything in motion and watched us like a giant ant farm I alo compare religion as to see diffrent view as I have said many times man is known as the manipulator changing and twisting things for their own needs and desires for eample just about every religion talks of a great flood taking the entire planet both the bible and quran speak highly of abraham

to be hones evolution is just a theory based on facts and observation by humans . if you look in the right place then you will find evolution in progress today , for some examples humans pollute the waters so much that we are unable to ingest it but birds and fishes are able to survive in those climates because they are constantly finding a way to survive and adapt to the most , here we can observe survival of the fittest and one more example is that
as humans discover more and more about stuff the education for children changes and becomes more complex thus over a period of time we humans will evolve to be more adaptive and brilliant . That is what i know about evolution . Excuse me for my bad English ." Always be a seeker not a Believer". Correct if i am wrong :D

Yes, I know these examples. They're(not exactly 'They', but things like these) the ones which convinced me. The seeker and believer thing is also correct; I see it my goal to seek knowledge in my life. That way I both do what I like and make God love me and be proud of me. That's how my humble self thinks :P .
