Do you know any vegan republicans?

Post by Jebus »

I'm just curious if they exist (dietary vegans excluded).
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Matthew Scully who wrote the book "Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy" is AFAIK a conservative Republican christian.
Regarding the book, Though you have to sift through occasional religious statements, despite it it is a very well written book and it covers quite a bunch of animal related topics that are not as much discussed on In contemporary vegan circles.

Perhaps some of the vegan xtians are republicans, there is a vegan christian fb group where off and on they talk about their misguided issues with abortion.

There are probably two primary types.

1. As Garreth mentioned, those who are primarily voting on a single issue (abortion). Most would be religious, though some not.

2. Libertarian vegans, who consider the fiscal issues of more relevance than the social issues (e.g. the government has no power to end abortion so those issues don't matter since nothing will change, and they prefer Republican fiscal policies).

They're probably a very tiny minority.

The only one I know is this guy: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheLatsbrah/videos

He's a nationalist, conservative, pagan Trump supporter.

I'd imagine there are quite a few libertarian vegans since the entire movement revolves around contrarianism. And I'd hope the fully pro-life people wouldn't side with Rebpublicans based on that sole issue given how otherwise destructive they are as a party.

I come across lots of people, particularly women, on social media who are on a vegan 'diet' for health reasons whom I wouldn't be surprised to find have conservative leanings.

So...there are more than I thought. Yikes. Obviously some conservation-themed bios were snagged in the search, but still plenty of vegan right-wingers.
