I don't think he's inherently wrong. All drugs have side effects.
THC has use potential (reduce anxiety, relieve chronic pain, increase appetite for people with chemotherapy, etc.), and within those valid uses it's a legit medication that a healthcare provider has to weigh against the side effects in any case.
Using any drug recreationally is not really a good idea.
The more important thing is that the side effects of THC use are usually more personal, and less systemic. It doesn't usually cause people to become violent or to commit crimes to acquire more drug (due to the low addictivity), and driving under its influence is less dangerous than alcohol (for example, as far as I understand it). So, for those reasons, particularly if alcohol (which is much worse) is legal, so should be Marijuana.
"70% of tobacco sales in NY state are from the black market"
That's an interesting point. Might be worth making a thread on.

What do you mean by inherently wrong?brimstoneSalad wrote:I don't think he's inherently wrong.
I'm assuming you're not including caffeine in this?brimstoneSalad wrote:Using any drug recreationally is not really a good idea.
I'm also assuming that with marijuana (not with smoking it though) that using it very occasionally isn't really an issue, and that possible negative effects come with more heavy usage.
I believe he said that marijuana can cause stuff like that. I think his example was car accidents.brimstoneSalad wrote:The more important thing is that the side effects of THC use are usually more personal, and less systemic. Do you agree that marijuana really has a good chance of lowering your IQ by 8 points etc.?
Do you think it's a valid point on his end? I don't really see why, since that would be 100% if tobacco was illegal.brimstoneSalad wrote:"70% of tobacco sales in NY state are from the black market"

I'll make that thread soon.
Do you think cartels would just find something else to replace marijuana with if it was legalized?

Well when it comes to if its good or bad to use marijuana it varies depending on the situation and person. Depending on pre existing conditions and defects it could severely mess with you against most belief it is addictive but not the drug itself the process of it closing off the other chemicals in the brain to nearly nothing in contrast to magnifying that witch controls happiness can be addictive because are brain associates that joy with the drug depending on the person their conditions and where when and how often they use it effects my opinion on the subject because it can be harmful beneficial or neither

As a matter of most of his reasoning, probably. There are open empirical questions around most of this, and the rhetoric makes them hard to answer.EquALLity wrote: What do you mean by inherently wrong?
Caffeine has legitimate uses that have utility: e.g. waking people up, and increasing productivity.EquALLity wrote: I'm assuming you're not including caffeine in this?
If it were merely recreational, I wouldn't agree with it.
These are plausible arguments. I think we'd need more study.EquALLity wrote: I believe he said that marijuana can cause stuff like that. I think his example was car accidents.

I think we since talked about the differences between decriminalizing something and making it legal.EquALLity wrote: Do you think it's a valid point on his end? I don't really see why, since that would be 100% if tobacco was illegal.

They might. They would try, but they wouldn't necessarily succeed. It would be hard to beat weed.EquALLity wrote: Do you think cartels would just find something else to replace marijuana with if it was legalized?

I am all for to make weed legal as it causes a lower rate of deaths than alcoholic beverages and it has medicinal properties as well - for instance it can treat cancer. I smoke weed occasionally but more often I eat it in cookies. It helps me to relax and sometimes I see visions. In my opinion, weed is not the problem! It is legal drugs who are more problematic, I say that you should make it so that it is legal to drink responsibly. And you must show all the side effects and the ingredients of cigarettes on the packet. By the way - the forum is green now, is that to celebrate weed or because you are Vegan lol?
