Trying Too Understand College Writing

Post by JadeSpeedster17 »

I have been stressing for fucking days! I just don't know what in world I am doing wrong!

To explain, my teacher keeps telling me it's a style issue, when I tried to improve I went down by 2 points, from a C+ to a C-. Every time I try to ask why, I get not clear answer on how to improve. It's annoying that the guy with the fucking degree can't help me at all. I can't see what I am doing wrong, so I can't improve. I'm getting financial aid, so I don't know what I'll do if I don't pass the fucking class!

Anyone have any tips, i'm all ears because I'm at the end of my rope.

Well what class are you taking? And maybe if you can you can show us your essay or whatever and we'll tell you what needs fixing. I always pass my English essay exams, so I guess you can trust me.

Take a step back and assume you are doing something wrong, rather than just saying you don't know. It may be more obvious than you think.

The subjectivity of writing classes is a big problem. Have you visited him during office hours to talk about it more? Like for examples of how you should change the style of a particular paragraph, or of what is in a bad style and how it might be fixed.

So what your saying is, JadeSpeedster's writing may actually be good, but his/her teacher has certain biases and such?

Who knows. "Good" or bad writing is up to interpretation. If we go by "majority rules" in deciding what's good, most academically regarded great writing is terrible because nobody wants to read it. It really depends on your audience. And in this case, the audience is the teacher, so whatever he or she likes is what's "good"; or what will get the grade you need.
