I am particularly conflicted on our current immigration issue.
What immigration issue?
The U.S. economy has tanked, and Mexico's economy has improved recently, so pretty much zero people are crossing the border now.
I spend a lot of time on the border (literally a stones throw away at times) and I wouldn't say it is zero.
In typical government fashion, the process one has to go through to legally obtain citizenship is so costly and time consuming it is much easier just to skip this step and get/stay here illegally.

You can walk into Mexico from the border. It's the line to get back in that is so long and slow, and you better have remembered your passport or it is going to be a long day. I've almost driven into Mexico on accident.
