I think EquALLity is saying:

If it's OK for free people to do, then prisoners should be allowed to do it too, otherwise that's just another punishment (not being allowed to play blood sports) as another restriction on their freedoms.
But if it's not OK for free people (like because it's harmful to society), there's no reason to let prisoners do it either.

Please correct me if I misunderstood.

I don't think that if they are in prison, they could be considered financially stable. Plus the possibility of coercion would seriously taint the competition.

This is an extreme scenario, but at the core it is about personal freedom.

At what point should personal freedom be restricted?

Is it at the point where it might possibly influence others? Euthanasia is a much debated topic, but in some countries it is allowed, even if the person has no fatal illness. Couldn't this lead to people wanting to kill themselves, which could be a negative for society? Is it only the fact that in this scenario it is "celebrated" as a sport? What if two people wished to duel to the death, and it was not televised? Should that be allowed?
Alcohol may have been a factor.

Taxation is theft.

Yup, exactly. Thanks. :)

And to clarify, I do think it's harmful, so I don't think prisoners should be able to do it.
