I did stop reading because it was slow and I see your point about the religion. You're probably right.

I thought the later part of the book was very interesting. Spoiler Alert:


But what I really enjoyed most was the scene where Mustapha Mond explains to the "deviants" (Helmholtz, Bernard and John) that being exiled to the Islands is actually a great thing. You get to be with other intellectuals who are dissatisfied, and it's pretty much a paradise where you are free to hang out with other individuals. It reminded me a little of Galt's Gulch, lol.

John was just a tortured psycho, in my opinion. It was too bad, but the guy was a mess. I think Huxley means to hold him up as a noble savage, but he did nothing for me. I'm not much into self-flagellation.

There were obviously positive and negative aspects of the society described in the book. I like the idea of paradise engineering, personally. But I would go about it differently ;)

What do you guys think about creating "Brave New World" simulations inhabited by sentient AI?
