I met a Turkish person at my Model Congress event, and we talked a little about the coup in Turkey (it still fascinates me).

She actually strongly believes the coup was staged by Erdogan so that he could purge his political opponents. She said that it seemed like too quick to be real and that he clearly had a motive - he purged thousands of people after, it's not like he came up with that list of people and groups in a few days.

That might seem crazy by US standards, like a crazy conspiracy theory, but in Turkey there are crazy things like that. For example, there was a leak of top government officials discussing conducting a false flag operation. Additionally, there is substantial reason to believe Erdogan is rigging elections, like I mentioned on the first page.

I also asked her if she believes Erdogan is becoming more of a religious extremist or a Vladimir Putin, and she thinks he's trying to become a Putin but is coming off like a religious extremist, since he's making the country more religious than it used to be, and women have to be more conservative.

She also said how the coup reinvigorated his supporters. She saw all these Turkish flags near her house when she was there, and she thought there was a festival or something, but someone told her that they were there to support Erdogan - and there were thousands of flags. But she said that, like in America with the younger generation, they see through his bullshit. But the older generations totally support him.

She went there last summer after the coup and usually goes every year, but she feels that it's so dangerous there that she's not going this summer.

What do you guys think?
