Hello everyone

Post by Kruky »

Hello

I have now been a Vegan for over a year and wish I started sooner. It began a couple of years ago when I just did not enjoy eating meat, especially pork. My wife felt the same which helped, we both decided to try to cut out all meat from our diet and just eat fish dairy which we did for little while. Realising how easy it was to not eat meat we then decided to try and not eat anything animal and it has been the best decision we have ever made.

Thanks accepting me into the forum :)

Welcome Kurky! Good to see going vegan was easier for you.
Are you vegan mainly because meat makes you feel unwell?

I wasn’t feeling unwell eating animal produce apart feeling lethargic after a meal it’s just I was not liking what I was eating. Suppose in recent years I payed more attention into how my meal ended up on my plate and the amount resources it took to have it there. When starting cheese was my only worry but now that doesn’t bother me as there are alternatives which are very tasty too. I believe once you get used to something it becomes the norm.

I think most people feel crappy after eating meat (especially processed junk) but they keep eating it because they aren't willing to give up the taste. You are right that once you adjust your eating habits it becomes a part of your day to day life.

Anyway, do you have any thoughts on the ethical and environmental arguments for veganism as well?

I looked more and more into factory farming which then lead onto the topic of what am I doing buying and wearing products made from animal skin, it’s just wrong. I discovered that being a vegan is not only a dietary change but for me and my family it’s been a lifestyle change too and one which we are still learning. I’m hoping my two children who are both vegans continue being vegans and more of their generation do the same, ethically and environmentally what is happening today cannot continue. There is definitely a big change happening, more people realising the impact animal food production has on the planets environment and more people turning to a plant based diet.

I'd say it's pretty likely. People raised vegan tend to stay vegan throughout their lives (they may *try* meat or other animal products when they get older), and it's important for vegans to have children.

Welcome Kruky, that's great that you were able to do it together, I'm sure that helped a lot to have that support.

Re: children, hopefully it will be a lot easier for the next generation too. More socially accepted and more products available.
