Am I the only one around here that doesn't watch anime?!

Post by Red »

From time to time, usually when I'm with my friends or on some sort of network, Anime is always brought up. i've seen anime, but for me, it's just something I can't get into. Don't get me wrong, the animation, action, and humor is good, but I just can't get interested. :? some of my friends take anime very seriously, almost as if it's a religion. Am i alone on this? do any of you guiz like anime?

I was exactly like you years ago; I never really liked it and didn't understand why others did. And I still don't like most of the series that are out there. But I later recognized it really depends on what kind of series you personally could enjoy, because there is some real strange shit out there. Some of it will appeal to you immediately, some of it has to grow on you before you like it, but most stuff is just outright garbage.

I myself started out with Bleach, and didn't like it at first, but when I kept watching more episodes it started to grow on me. Now, I still have a very narrow selection of what series I like/watch(ed), so I think I kind of get where you're coming from.

I follow a manga webcomic, but that's it.

I used to watch 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' when I was little, though.

Pretty sure that doesn't count as anime. Did you watch The Legend of Korra too?

Why is that? Because it's American?

Now that I think of it, as a child I watched lots of series like Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. Didn't really think of them as anime. I mostly associate the term with the young-adult series.

Oh yeah, that's true. Like Volenta said, it's American.

No, no Legend of Korra. Why? Did you?

I watched Pokémon.
I've never heard of 'Yu-gi-oh', though.

It's a great series (the dual monsters one at least). The trading cards were a big hit where I lived (I suppose throughout the Netherlands).

We also had Beyblade for a short period.

Edit: Shin Chan was also great.

Oh, cool. Maybe I can find one of those on demand or something.

Yeah, anime is by definition Japanese. Come to think of it, pokemon and yugioh could indeed be considered anime. I watched those too.

Yes, it's quite good and aimed more towards a young adult audience (the people that grew up with Avatar). Even if just for nostalgia, it's pretty fun.

I still have several hundred fake Yugioh cards lying around. As the only one of my friends who knew English when I was young, I just kinda made up what cards did for a more one-sided experience.
