The predicted demographics say there will be a three folds increase in Muslim population while the other populations will not see any significant rise.
I live in Hyderabad. I remember there was a slum a few miles away from my old house. And people residing there were mostly Muslims. Whenever I would passed from the slum I would be surprised each time to see how each of these shacks housed at least twenty people. Few maids use to come from this area to work in our house. And these maids had 12 to 16 children. They had kids even after their older kids got married. After I grew up I saw that condoms and birth control pills brought down the birthrate of the whole city. However, the Muslims from the middle and lower classes still go for 4 to 8 children. Not because they can't help it, but because it is encouraged a lot in the mosques during Friday prayers. The Imams often speak of having more children as a divine duty. They brainwash the visitors saying they should go for more children even when they cannot afford it. For Allah takes responsibility of every individual that is born in the world. There were also a few occasions when the Imam talked about how the growing population will eventually outnumber the Christians in the west and Hindus in India. And this will lead to the falling of their governments and rise of an Islamic empire. Do you see any solution to this?

One has to wonder, if these people are having so many children as to outnumber themselves like that, how do they control and brainwash them, and force them to become Muslims, rather than letting them run wild and think for themselves?
They make the assumption that their children will automatically be Muslim, as if it's just that obvious, but it really isn't. Neither is it obvious that their children will choose to be Muslim (although they might pretend), nor at all obvious that Islam is true (which, of course, it isn't).
It's more likely that they're just breeding a bunch of atheists, as their religious knowledge, brainwashing, and conviction become weaker generation by generation.

The article reads "If current trends continue" and later builds on this assumption. I think this is a big "if". Much can change between now and 2050. If education becomes more accessible to Muslim women they will become more integrated into the work force which will lead to lower birth rates. Hans Rosling actually makes a very good case when arguing that poverty rather than religion has the greatest impact on the birth rate. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezVk1ahRF78

Re: Predicted population demographics. What is the future?
Most of the Muslim children grow up in the middle class society where they have access to food and education. The conditions are not really that bad. What they don't have access to is an intellectual exposure. Even after scoring well in academics they don't become sceptical. This is because Islam is very strict and promises severe punishments to people who doubt the faith. While an increase in population might seem chaotic to control. But it is not. The mosques house thousands of muslims in friday prayers. As the Muslims expand their colonies they build sufficient mosques. Members of the Jamat reach Muslims door to door and invite them for religious conferences. I have seen a family of 13 brothers in which 8 turned fundamentalist and 5 were not religious but shared the hatred for non Muslims. A major part of the Muslim community can be categorized into this type- not religious but intolerant to non islamic culture. The illuminati conspiracies are still believed strongly by most of the Muslims and even the terrorist are seen as an element from the west.
Due to the suffocating atmosphere of their overpopulated homes, many Muslims will move to countries with lesser population. There may of course be a few who will come to atheism or to other religion due to the interaction with westerners. But this number will be less than significant. Many of my cousins who live in the western countries are more Islamic than my cousins living in Muslim countries. Atheism is seen as a notion of the west. Yes, the current situations may change and alter the population growth due to the spread of education but we cannot deny the fact that a very strong force is pushing Muslims towards population growth. Which is at some point in the future may trigger an attempt of world conquest by them.
