The worst online scams you've ever seen (aside from altmed)

Post by brimstoneSalad »

I thought I'd start a thread about this cheery, inspirational topic.

Aside from alt med stuff like homeopathy (which could fill an ocean), what are the worst scams you've seen on the internet?

We recently had a pretty nasty scammer on these forums trying to take advantage of vegans by fishing their e-mail addresses for spam under the pretext of offering a nutritional database.

So that's pretty disgusting. What else have you seen out there?
It seems like scammers will exploit any community they think they can pretend to belong to, in order to gain trust, and then take advantage of it and rip people off (either in monetary terms, or by violating their privacy for profit).

personally I think the entire online fitness industry is a big scam. You have bodybuilders on stereoids with no scientific knowledge whatsoever pretending that all you need to get big is some whey protein powder (in reality they dont even use protein powders themselves because it's a useless waste product). All the young boys taking advice from these *fake natural* fitness experts get a really messed up body image
