I figured CKY wouldn't be up your alley, but the side projects are completely different.Dream Sphere wrote:seitan_forker wrote:Wow, great stuff! I had never heard of Gallowbraid, which I'm ashamed of since they're from nearby SLC. Very reminiscent of Agalloch with perhaps a bit more whimsy. Listening to either makes me wish it would start snowing right now in the middle of July.Dream Sphere wrote:Welcome, and nice Agalloch avatar you've got there.![]()
I've never been a great part of the welcoming committee around here, but I must say, as I feel with others like you who've joined here, that it's always nice to have another member who's a Vegan Atheist around here.
We seem to have at least a few other Metal fans around here besides myself, though there hasn't been loads of discussion around music on here recently, maybe having a new member who seems to be into this kinda stuff could reinvigorate some of the discussion around that on here?![]()
Anyways, if you don't know them, and enjoy Agalloch, then it may be worth checking out this band called Gallowbraid who released an EP some years ago along the same genre/style as Agalloch's The Mantle, that is a mix of Folk, Black and Doom Metal, which I often hear referred to as Dark Metal. Here's Gallowbraid's three main songs (they have another longer one they released for a compilation, plus two short folk interludes,) uploaded onto youtube by their record label, if you're interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdbqwa9FI6U -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQWwXG1_rxI -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmH21iNjfAE
Were you ever into CKY? And if so, Deron's side project World Under Blood? Foreign Objects is releasing a new album soon, too.
I think I've only ever heard CKY referred to by name a few times, but not actually any of their music. The other two bands I think I've also heard by name, but a little less often, I'm figuring that's just because they have side-project status compared to CKY. Anyways, I checked CKY's wiki page, and I'm not sure if I would like them a lot, because I'm not very much into Alternative Metal or Nu Metal. If the side-project bands are fairly different, I may be more interested in those. Also, for CKY, those aren't the only genres listed, and there still may be stuff in any of those genres listed, (including the two aforementioned genres) which I haven't discovered yet, and may happen to enjoy. So if you have anything by them which you think I may like, I would still be interested in a recommendation of it.
Since you liked Gallowbraid, here's two other bands from the same area, one of which certainly has Gallowbraid's main band member as their vocalist, in the heavy/power metal band; Visigoth -- http://visigoth.bandcamp.com/album/final-spell -- and another, which due to the members being a bit secretive about their real identities, remains uncertain (however very likely) of whether Jake Rogers took part in their album's production, in the Folk/Epic Black Metal band, (which hearkens back to the older German band Summoning's work,) called Caladan Brood -- http://caladanbrood.bandcamp.com/
Also, what do you think of the band In Vain? -- http://invainband.bandcamp.com/album/nigma
World Under Blood - Can't Stand His Name: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pLEVW7UIRg
Visigoth and Caladan Brood are both awesome. Visigoth reminds me of Saxon, Caladan Brood of Alcest. Not too familiar with In Vain. Like what I hear on their bandcamp, though. Do you like Pelican? I assume you're a Death fan, as well? Wish I would have gotten a chance to see Chuck.
