I think you missed the point entirely.
I don't care if I ever get these things. I want meat eaters to be able to switch to them. If it's illegal, it will be more expensive than animal based meat and cheese. If it's legal, it will be cheaper and almost everybody in the world will switch to it (except the crazy people who are afraid of GMO), thus saving billions upon billions of animals from having short lives of suffering.
Certainly weed is popular despite its illegality, but if there was something identical to weed which was legal and a fraction of the price, wouldn't people choose that instead?
