Great post, Brimstone. However, I don't think 1/3 of a teaspoon is anything I need to worry about.

Ah, sorry, I went on a bit of a tangent.

My point was that you can eat a lot more salt than that.
Just try to stay under a tablespoon a day.

I haven't used iodized salt since going vegan, instead I'm relying on sea vegetables for iodine. Generally either a few grams of dried wakame flakes or about 20 grams of fresh nori every day. The higher concentration of iodine in dried seaweed plus the fact wakame generally contains more wakame than nori means I don't eat much of it so I don't reach the toletable upper limit.

Do you think that's adequate? I eat sea vegetables at dinner, because I take my B12 supplement during the morning and I believe sea vegetables can somewhat inhibit B12 absorption. Maybe could I add a little bit of iodized salt during my lunch to be sure? The tolerable upper limit for iodine is more than 7 times the minimal requirement, so maybe adding a little more won't hurt. Also I wonder whether the precautions I take to not overdose dried wakame flakes are a bit too conservative.

A lot of the sea vegetables have lead, plus kelp has arsenic.

I noticed you haven't made an introduction post. Are you a guitar player?

I moved iodine up, since a lot of countries have problems with it and a lot of vegans are silly and won't eat iodized salt.

Seaweed has lead.
