The problem of evil question is only useful against laity who are ignorant of their own apologetic traditions. Apologists don't usually have a problem with this, as they all have pretty well developed theodicies, which are plausible sounding metaphysical constructs.
Granting the assumption that omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolent are even possible qualities (which is required to pose the problem of evil) is more problematic in itself than the problem of evil is rhetorically useful.
In other words, you can't first grant that square circles exist, and then expect to use logic to argue about what color square circles are.
