I can't; it's for republicans. When they asked me who I supported in the election, and I said Bernie Sanders, they were like, "Oh, this club probably isn't for you."

In addition, one of them asked, "One question- do you support Obamacare?"
I said I thought it was better than the previous system. He didn't look too jazzed.

And also, my other friend asked them some questions, and they apparently said something like, "It's a liberal school, so we think republicans should have a place to discuss their beliefs in a republican environment."

Like a republican sanctuary.

Nope, you can still join. They can't ban you, all clubs are open to all students.

If they ban you, they have to close their club, and can't use the school's resources.

None of them are going to want some liberal there for debate (not the purpose of the club), so I don't think they'd engage. They'd probably be able to ban me for disruption or something, since it's not a liberal vs conservative debate club.

I think there is a debate club called Model Congress, but I remembered that it was really crappy in MS, so I didn't bother to check it out at the fair. Maybe I should look into that, though.

Just say you're independent, and you want to join a political club, but the other has schedule conflicts.
They can't not let you join.

Contact whatever faculty adviser is the head of the club, or the principal of the school, and explain what's happening.

Disruptive is doing things like speaking out of turn, or off topic. No, that wouldn't be disruptive to share your views on a subject when that subject is being discussed.

If people want an echo chamber, or only allow one religious or political opinion in the club, they have to do it privately and off school property, without any public resources.

You'd be in the right in either of those cases, as long as they're done at the school or with public resources.

It takes two to debate. They are the ones starting them by contradicting your humbly shared opinions.

Civil debate, if they start one, is not disruptive. You just have to follow the rules.

If they want to be exclusive, they can get off campus and fund their own meeting places, etc.
Group think clubs are not suitable for schools.

They have the right to make their own clubs on their own time in their own places; not to co-opt school property and then deny access to other students.

Penn Jillette talks a lot about this kind of stuff, and I generally agree with him on these topics in terms of content and passion. Nobody has the right to use government funds for their own political or religious ideologies.
