There's a variable you aren't considering here. Legal guns would be more expensive, but illegal guns would still be in supply. You only have to make them so expensive it pushes them out of the reach of most would be school shooters.
The latest young person to go on a killing spree in Austin, TX didn't use a gun. If he placed his bombs in crowded arenas instead, I'm sure his kill count would have been closer to those done with guns.
