Poe's law. It's a fine line between a troll and a true believer, at least in terms of perception.

We want to encourage Christians, Muslims, and other theists to come here for debate, and if we ban anybody suspected of trolling, that would discourage that.
If we didn't want a certain kind of theist here, we could just state it in the rules. E.g. "no young Earth creationists", which would be OK too. It depends on what kind of community we want here. But if somebody is allowed on the forum, they get get every chance to follow the rules.

I would say: Go to a Christian forum, and see how long it takes you to get banned purely for your beliefs (regardless of how nicely you express them). I won't make the cliched statement that "that would make us just like them", but you certainly get a sense for how it would discourage posters.

Theists should know that they are welcome here, and as long as they make an effort to engage in rational discussion, they will not be banned for their beliefs, no matter how bizarre we find them, and they don't need to "walk in eggshells" to avoid being banned either. They can be assholes if they want (since that's pretty subjective), they just have to make and respond to arguments.
