It's me, the Jatheist

Post by Jatheist »

Hello, I am Jatheist, which is a combination of my first name, Jack, and atheist. It is pronounced JAY-THEE-IST. I was a Catholic but became an Atheist this spring. I am here to debate with religious people and share some stuff. I would also like to help support and fund the Vegan Atheist. Feel free to ask questions :) .

Hey, welcome! :D

I don't think that we really have any active religious people on here to debate, sorry. :P
But maybe you should start a debate on veganism.

I used to be Catholic too (before I reached the age of reason, as George Carlin put it). What made you see the light?

Welcome Jatheist!
Are you a vegan?
I don't think that we really have any active religious people
I thought we had a few sort of kind of active people who were theists? I wasn't aware they completely left! Would you consider the lack of theists on this forum to be a problem?

In general, it seems to me like lots of people join, and even make intros, but barely post and then leave after a short period of time (just look in the members section and see- there are pages of members with 0 posts).

I rarely see religious people on here. We've had one Hindu person, a Jew, a Muslim, and a few Christians as far as I know. None of them are active anymore from what I can tell.

I would, totally. When we have theists on here, some of them don't even talk about religion, and the ones who do just have one conversation about it and leave, or are really dense, and we barely even have them at all.

Ignore the question, I just read your other thread which clarified that! Sorry :D

How do you think we can solve this theist problem? Most of the people I know are secular and the people I do know who are religous would be opposed to joining a forum like this...

Same, most of my close friends aren't religious.

See what happened when I had a debate with a close religious friend here: https://theveganatheist.com/forum/viewt ... f=11&t=709

I ended up actually going to her church youth group (we made a deal- I would go to that and she would go vegan for a week) and met some of these people in this chat.

Some of the people there were so nice, but it's obviously also a really dangerous atmosphere because they all yes-man each others' crazy ideas.

This friend is really smart when it comes to a lot of things, and even wants to be vegan (parents hold her back), but this is an exception for her, probably because of the emotional connection she has with her church. I remember at the end of one conversation we had, she said something along the lines of, "Ok, but just don't hate my church." And during that conversation in the link, somebody asked, "Wow, you really hate Unificationists, don't you?" when I was criticizing the religion. I wonder what I can do to get her to snap out of it.

Oops, went off on a tangent there.

Well, my point is that my religious friends won't be interested. ;)

I don't know what we can do. TVA already mentions the forum at the end of all his videos... Maybe we could spread the forum around online in comments and responses to things when appropriate?

This sounds like a good idea, but even when it is appropriate people generally don't respond to what they perceive as advertisement (based on my internet experience)
I wouldn't want to do it without TVA's consent, as it might make the forum look bad

I am an omnivore, and what turned me to an Atheist was that I lost faith, and I began researching Christianity from neutral and atheist resources. I felt their side makes more sense than the apologist's side. I wanted to convert to other religions such as Buddhism and Sikhism, but I found flaws in Buddhism, and Sikhism refutes itself
