Newbie Vegan

Post by infidelguy »

Hola,

I was a vegetarian off and on for years. For 12 years I conducted a radio show challenging religion, bad science, and promoting critical thinking. It was called, The Infidel Guy Show. On one program, I had a vegan on. I knew then that I had no moral argument for carnism. I looked more into it at the time but the science debate was fierce and my research skills still needed to be honed. After further research and some nudging by a few videos and colleagues, I am now proud to say that I am Vegan.

I have so much to learn. It's a little intimidating but exciting! I feel like I did when I first decided I was atheist.

I am no longer conducting my radio show. I'm currently earning a second Masters in Biology, I write science news for Liberal America, and I start teaching AP Biology next school year here in Orlando, FL.

It's a pleasure to be here.

Hi infidelguy, welcome! I'm pretty sure I've heard a couple interviews you did on your show before (not live, but after the fact streaming online).

Congrats on defeating the carnism beast; that one can be tougher than religion, since it's more ingrained in daily habit.
That's great that you've gone back to school and are going to teach.

How did you find the forum?

I found TheVeganAtheist youtube channel. I contacted him and he led me here. :-)

I am currently undergoing a huge mode of guilt right now and having trouble dealing with that. I keep having flashbacks. I was such a horrible person. :-(

Glad he did. We've had a few people sign up directly from searching, I was wondering if you got lucky with Google.

I know what you mean, and I can sympathize a bit. But guilt keeps you honest. Just take it as proof of how far you've come, and let it motivate you in the future; only good people feel guilty for doing bad things in the past.

Even if I could, I wouldn't turn off my guilt for things I'e done, because that's what makes me who I am, and encourages me to not screw things up in the present.
