Hey, I'm new here! (obviously)

Post by Coldtrojan »

I've been considering joining the forum for quite some time, only because I have little time to be active on it.
As you can see I've decided to join and hopefully I can become a regular and active member of the forum. :)

My name's Troy and I'm an atheist. I'm not a vegan but this is mostly due to my current environment not allowing me to purchase my own food.
I tend to agree with most ethical vegan arguments and will probably end up becoming vegan once my situation allows it.
I'm from the Netherlands though am interested in US social/political/other events because of many US friends that I've met over time. This probably sparked my interest in religion, considering here in Europe this topic hardly comes to mind - with the exception of places like the UK where religion is (becoming) more prominent.

Any further details about me or my life will likely come up as they become relevant but you are of course welcome to ask. ;)

Hello, Troy. I'm new here as well. joined about a week ago. I'm an atheist and a vegan. I'm from the United States and live in Florida. I have heard that the Netherlands and Scandinavian region is not very religious and has lots of atheists. It is the opposite here in the US since atheist are a small minority and the majority is christian. I understand your situation why you are not vegan. Sometimes people's parents don't support them going vegetarian/vegan and they have to wait till they move out. I would advise that you transition slowly to learn more about vegetarianism and get others accustomed to it instead of switching to vegan right away.
Since I live in a very religious environment it is hard for me to tell others that I am atheist, like it is for those coming out as gay. My whole family is religious and I'm already an outcast and black sheep since I'm vegan so I avoid telling them I'm atheist. But I plan to sometime.
What do you think about the current US politics and about the candidates like Bernie Sanders?
Welcome to the forum, Coldtrojan.

Welcome to the forum Coldtrojan, I'm glad you decided to join!

It's great you're interested in veganism and ethics. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Could you tell us more about it? We may be able to offer some suggestions.

And, of course, if you can't eliminate meat entirely now due to situation, it's often possible to reduce, which makes a difference on its own.

Welcome Coldtrojan. I am happy that you are interested in becoming a vegan.

My brother is a vegan who lives on the 71st N latitude which shows that with some planning it can be done in any environment.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.
