Can't think of a subject... *stares at keyboard for a bit*

Post by Jennasis »

Hi! I'm Jenna, or Jenn, or JJ ...sometimes people call me Gemma, or Jenny and I let it slide with a smile! :-)

New here (obvs) and don't get chance to get on any forums much, but figure I'll try to be more active socially, in an attempt to make friends outside of work and the local Skeptics Society!!

Anyway, so I'm thirtysomething, 6 foot 1, lanky, big European nose that could shelter a small child or pets from the harmful rays of the sun, I work in Business Intelligence by day, am a semi-pro photographer at other times and, in what spare time I have left, enjoy helping people out (I'm former homeless and do as much charity advocacy as I can).

If I've not bored you to death/tears already, I'm sure I will be able to do so in future posts!

*hugs!*

Jenn

Our fledgling charitable organisation website = www.broken-wings.co.uk
A friend of mine is an awesome former homeless guy called Mike, who now recycles bikes and gives a lot back to the community, so I'll plug his website, too - www.recyclebikes.co
I have a personal photography site that's rarely updated = www.silenskies.co.uk.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! :D

How long have you been an atheist? What do you think of veganism?

Interesting question! For as long as I can remember thinking about the subject seriously, really... I grew up with a Christian dad, who was a church organist at the time, so I sang in choirs and went to Sunday school etc, but I have a Quaker mum, so also went to Meeting, during which I once ran into a lady who was very angry with me, scared me then made me an entire Victoria sponge cake to apologise - good times!

Veganism is something I'd like to try again, though previous attempts, thanks to my generally low appetite, fast metabolism and IBS, have ended in rapid weight loss and general malaise, so I think I'd only be successful were I to have a full time dietician and chef ^_^ I'm currently mostly veggie, though I eat meats now and again. My general objection to meat is factory farming, though I am a lover of all life in general and, in an ideal world (this isn't such a world) I think all animals, not just us, would have an alternative to devouring each other for sustenance.

That might be a reality someday if we reprogramme predators through advances in biology and manage the prey population by sterilizations etc. Extreme abolitionism!

Welcome Jenna, I liked your introduction
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Hi,

That's a little extreme, I hope that was a joke.

You just need a couple IBS safe staple recipes that are nutritionally balanced. We can help you work out a few safe and easy foods to prepare that would provide good nutrition, and wouldn't be complicated to make.

Usually three staple dishes will be the minimum (otherwise you get uncomfortable for lack of variety). Five or six is better, so you can cycle them at not get bored. Most people don't seem to eat more than a half a dozen things regularly.

Tell us what you like and don't like, and what upsets your IBS, and we'll do what we can to help you find some healthy and easy options.
