So I'm an atheist, and you would most likely expect for me to watch atheist youtubers. Well guess what I don't.
Don't get me wrong, they are the main reason why I'm an atheist today, but now I just dropped watching them all together. Why? Because I think I've seen everything there is religious-wise. It also applies to veganism. It just got boring watching debates, hearing related issues, being told things I already know, and debating in general. It's not fun anymore watching CultofDusty (a total jackass) or JaclynGlenn (who is REALLY boring, albeit attractive( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)), because I'm just going to hear the same nonsense, whether it be replying to a fundamentalist christian, hearing about situations that you've probably heard of and just don't care to hear their opinion on, or just other crap like sarcastic self-deprecation. It's kinda why I left the forum for a while and didn't focus on anything philosophical in particular.
Now onto some of the YouTubers themselves. The Amazing Atheist used to be a pretty funny guy, and ever now and again I would go back to a video from his that was uploaded in 2010 and have a good laugh, but now he isn't funny, his arguments are as weak as ever, and this is obviously just me, but I feel stupid every time I watch him. Cult of Dusty is a whole 'nother ball of wax. He's kinda the reason why I left new atheism in the first place. Other than the fact that he claims that he's smarter than religious people and calls them retarded (which goes to show how mature and modest he is) his video on the Chapel Hill Shootings made me never want to be invloved with New Atheism again. JaclynGlenn like I said is boring. She always sounds disinterested, she does more atheist related stuff, each are always similar in a way, and she never focuses on stuff like vegetarianism and veganism. She did make 1 or 2 videos about it, but that's it. Maybe because those don't get as many views or likes as her atheist stuff. And I really lost interest after she made those vulgar signs and tried to humilate a bunch of bigots, but that's just me. MrRepzion I lost interest after his talks on veganism and I really don't give a shit about the whole VeganGains thing. Each to their own I guess.
So if you survived this rambling let me know what you think.

Re: Why I Don't Watch Atheist YouTubers
While I have been an atheist for a while, I have not learned or explored how to counter many religious arguments. I can think of them if given some time, but otherwise do not have a mental archive set up to quickly pull them out during debate or conversation. This is the case even more so with veganism. For this reason, I do watch some atheist and vegan YouTubers. I am very picky though, because as you stated, the more popular vegan and atheist YouTubers can be pompous and often suffer from the same ignorance that those they criticize do.

Re: Why I Don't Watch Atheist YouTubers
Jaclyn's actually made a lot more than just one or two videos about animal rights.
I don't see why that made you lose respect for her. Do you think it was counterproductive or something?
Vulgar signs?
As for TJ, I don't really watch him anymore either. I just gradually stopped liking his content. His channel has a lot of DP stuff, and I don't really like that, along with how much he talks about people like Anita Sarkeesian, and other stuff I just don't really have interest in.
I never really watched CultOfDusty, except when I found a couple of videos he made for new atheists (people who just became atheists). Has he really said that all religious people are stupid?
Isn't New Atheism just atheism and anti-theism? You don't need to hate all religious people or something to be apart of it, and I'm pretty sure the '4 Horsemen' are all very against that idea. You can believe religion is bad without thinking all religious people are necessarily bad.

Re: Why I Don't Watch Atheist YouTubers
I wouldn't expect that. Like you said, the vast majority are just preaching to the choir, and most of them are idiots, providing piss poor arguments.RedAppleGP wrote:So I'm an atheist, and you would most likely expect for me to watch atheist youtubers. Well guess what I don't.
Theism is very, very low hanging fruit, and yet they still fumble trying to reach for it.
I've commented on TJ extensively.
I almost want to make a poe theist account and just troll them with arguments that will melt their brains, since I'm pretty sure they'd be unable to respond coherently to a real challenge.
But that would be counterproductive.
Superficially, I would say probably so. People like JaclynGlenn will have nothing to offer on the intellectual side.RedAppleGP wrote:Why? Because I think I've seen everything there is religious-wise. It also applies to veganism.
There IS actually good and intriguing philosophical content out there, but it's very hard to find because people don't promote it much.
The issue is most people are too dumb to understand it and so don't find it interesting; fewer likes, fewer favorites, fewer subscribers, shares, comments, whatever. Visibility on youtube is a democracy ruled by morons. It's what happens.
Dawkins doesn't do many debates, although Harris is still interested in these discussions, so you may find some of his debates with the more intelligent theists interesting. Dennett is pretty quiet too. And of course Hitchens did what he did...
Your best bet is to stick with the science related channels that rarely talk about atheism.
If you mean watching him kills brain cells, I don't disagree.RedAppleGP wrote:his arguments are as weak as ever, and this is obviously just me, but I feel stupid every time I watch him.
I'd like to know what that's about.RedAppleGP wrote:And I really lost interest after she made those vulgar signs and tried to humilate a bunch of bigots, but that's just me.

Well, that was dumb. Maybe a good way to pander for views and have "fun", but completely unproductive.EquALLity wrote:^https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mUw47qiG6Ic
It's the same kind of attitude of carnists who, in reaction to vegans, like to talk about how much they enjoy animal suffering for fun. That kind of mindset is quite opposed to actual dialogue or mutual understanding.

Re: Why I Don't Watch Atheist YouTubers
Well she probably did, and I underestimated, but not NEARLY as many as her atheist related videos. Look, I know that she knows that the majority (if not majority, then a good amount) of her viewers are meat-eaters, who are there only for the atheist vids, would unsub and dislike if she made more vegan/negetarianism based videos, which of course is a HUGE risk.EquALLity wrote:Jaclyn's actually made a lot more than just one or two videos about animal rights.
Well yeah I kinda got bored of her videos, and felt that new atheism isn't really doing as much to help society as much as they hope it would.EquALLity wrote:I don't see why that made you lose respect for her. Do you think it was counterproductive or something?
Y'know how they were "trolling" the westboro baptist church? Rember they made that "LIKES ANAL" signs or whatever? I mean, don't get me wrong I have my fair share of laughing at bigots, BUT I think they were going a bit too far. Not to mention I think they could have done somehting A LOT more productive than just attempt to humiliate a group of bigots.EquALLity wrote:Vulgar signs?
Yeah that really made me lose interest. Not to mention I fucking hate it when an atheist (doesnt have to be atheist but yknow whatever) that claim shit like they are left wing and anti conservative, when anti feminism is a RIGHT WING PHILOSOPHY. anti feminism is sexist and just plain stupid.EquALLity wrote:As for TJ, I don't really watch him anymore either. Yeah, I don't recommend watchingthem if you wanna keep your IQ level stable.EquALLity wrote: I never really watched CultOfDusty, except when I found a couple of videos he made for new atheists (people who just became atheists). Has he really said that all religious people are stupid?
Well it's complicated. google "new atheism" and you'll see what i mean.EquALLity wrote: Isn't New Atheism just atheism and anti-theism? Re: Why I Don't Watch Atheist YouTubers
I would also like to make an addendum, is that kool?
While I hate to admit this, but I don't watch the Vegan Atheist as much as I did 1 year ago. BUT, I watch his videos a lot more often than every other atheist youtubers vids, maybe because it's more entertaining to see highly edited videos instead of someone just talking in front of a camera for a quick buck. he branches off the beaten path, and he doesn't commit 90% of his channel to atheism, and focuses on veganism (muh). Not to mention that he also critiques fellow atheists and vegans stupididty, unlike every other atheist youtuber.
I also think that the main reason why people are new atheists is because it's the only thing that they understand well (philisophically speaking) and they are quite arrogant in their vids, because they think they are so intelligent even though they don't understand anything else.

I don't care about atheist videos since I never actually debate theists (they are extremely rare here). Vegan videos are more useful to me.
