Languages Superior to English

Post by Cirion Spellbinder »

As I learn more and more about the English language, it becomes more and more evident that a lot of the words are meaningless or have such broad definitions that they are useless. What language(s) has/have words with precise and unchanging meanings and logical and coherent grammar? I'd hope there would be at least some, but maybe all languages are like this.

Haha, very true.

I'm not sure which languages are superior. As far as I'm aware, English, French, German, and maybe some Slovak languages, derive from ancient Germanic languages. Language is constantly devoloping and evolving.

I think I've heard that languages like Chinese use a "story" method of language. Which is incredibly interesting. Not sure how well that plays out though.

I think English has problems because of people, rather than because of the grammar. e.g. people using a word incorrectly so often it loses its meaning. I think making a language simple is the most important part, and out of German, French, Dutch and English I think English is definitely the simplest.

This is what jargon is for.
It creates more specific words for uses in professional circles that resolve issues of ambiguity with language in general.

Jargon only goes so far, though, for languages like Chinese which have issues with word coinage, and where the general logic of the language is so ambiguous it makes very precise statements almost impossible.

Lack of linguistic precision, however, also has advantages in a non-technical scope; for example, in politics, or in avoiding conflict. When you can't make clear and unambiguous claims, nobody can really disagree with you.

Idk about superiority, but in English and similar languages (?) the pronunciation of words and how they are spelt can be very different making it difficult for a novice. In Indian languages AFAIK that isn't an issue. Some of them do refer to inanimate objects in a particular gender and that can be unnecessarily confusing.

Wondering if there are any genderless pronoun languages?
