Philosophical Vegan Forum

Veganism and atheism, what a unique combination for a forum concept. I'm a very isolated vegan so I did an Internet search and here I am. It's nice to see a forum that is about ethical veganism. Dietary vegans are another lot altogether.

It's been a while since I joined a mainstream forum. I've had a lot of frustration and misunderstandings online due to ending up in conversations with people who do little more than argue their emotions. I'll bet I won't have to worry about that here.

I'm a very isolated vegan so I did an Internet search and here I am.

I felt very much the same way prior to finding this forum, although at that point I was a new-ager and not the most rational.

Just a bit of an introduction to the forum; It was created by "TheVeganAtheist" who is a youtube content creator, who (surprise surprise) is both atheistic and vegan, as are most the people on the forum. Most of the people on this forum found it through his videos. Available here --> https://www.youtube.com/user/VeganTruth . As do all people who label themselves under more than one title including atheist, TVA has received more than his fair share of flack for his not so "unique combination" of interests, probably because of the opinions people hold towards "atheism+". I find it odd to find it so non-controversial to have religious+aids working, but atheist's suppress the hell out of it. But TVA does not intend to fuse atheism and veganism, it is a community of people who are interested in the sepprate areas of veganism and atheism.

Dietary vegans are another lot altogether.

How do you define a "dietary vegan"? Do you mean "health vegan"? Someone who is vegan because of concern for there health? Because many of the members of the forum are "health vegans" and do discuss things I am uninformed in such as the healthfulness of meat.

I've been a vegan for about five years. I decided that I didn't believe in the Christian god I was raised on at twelve. That was twenty-two years ago.

I hadn't heard of atheism+ until now.

I meant anyone who eats a vegan diet primarily (or only) for dietary reasons, health as well as religious.

5/22 yrs. I was. I like to identify myself other ethical vegans and promote ethical veganism. I wrote an essay about thinking of myself as an ignostic moreso than an atheist. I guess I will try it another time as a separate thread.

When you log in, do you click the box that says to keep you signed in?
That's important.

Also, if it logs you out, then push the back button, copy your post, then log in and post it. Most modern browsers will remember the text you entered if you push back right away.

Being quite poor my whole life, I ended up living in someone's garage with limited access to refrigeration, so I cut down on animal products. Happily, I found myself losing weight and so I consider deliberately continuing to eat in that fashion, but taking it to the point of completely excluding animal products as a personal challenge. Socially? I don't interact with people much, but there doesn't seem to be much general social pressure pertaining to theism or religion around here. The sub-culture in which I grew up is more rigid, so I kept my non-belief a secret from my family until I was about 19. Church is a large part of the culture.

I'm sure this must be one of the best places in the world to be a vegan. Many grocery stores and restaurants have affordable vegan options besides inherently vegan food like rice and beans and go out of their way to advertise to us. There is probably a sizable number of vegans in the area, I just don't know any of them or where/how they network. There's a vegan group in the next town over but I don't want to join Facebook to find out about them.
