If Everyone Loved Each Other..

I remember a few months ago I heard a quote that went something along the lines of "If everyone loved each other, we would need no laws". That, if you ask me, is something seriously deep to think about. I mean really, if we didn't have laws, and all we did was love each other, there wouldn't be stealing, lying, murder, etc.. There wouldn't really be laws.. Sure, you could say that we need drinking laws, sex laws, and so on, but if children understood, were responsible, and actually listened to their parents about serious stuff like this, those wouldn't be needed, IF the parent(s) aren't being too disiplinary. Now that part is all up to interpretation. bUt think about it: if everyone just loved each other, I'm pretty sure the world would still have most of it's resources ammirite? Ah, anyways, what do you think? If everyone loved each other, do you think that laws would be obsolete? Something else I wondered: do people obey laws because they have too, or because their morality tells them not too? There's something else to discuss if someone pays attention to it.. anyways, lemme know what you think!!!!!!!!

Islamist Muslims will still keep killing people to save them from their own sins, because they love them (better to kill one infidel to convert two and save their souls than let all three go to hell). Love itself will not save us if not coupled with rationality and a sensible secular world view.
If everybody just employed critical thinking, it would probably go a lot further to fixing the world's problems than love.

Critical thinking alone won't necessarily lead to a moral outcome. You can use revelations from logic for good or bad- it doesn't slant one way or the other; it's just a method of determining what makes the most sense dependent on your intentions (which can be good or bad).
I think the two are dependent on each other in terms of a good outcome.

It wouldn't be alone. There's already a lot of good intention out there. Sanders, Trump, Hillary: they all basically have good intentions and want to be remembered as good presidents, and make policies that will help the country and the world.

Of course, but most people see themselves as good guys. Even the worst villains in history -- down to Hitler -- thought they were heroes. They were just delusional.

My point is that with rare exception, we already have quite a bit of the other.

Ah, I see. I don't agree, though. I believe there is a serious lack of good intention among many people.
Or, they may have rationalized that their bigotries are good due to a sense of entitlement and lack of love (pretty much everyone against marriage equality, whdch is almost half of America), which is just as bad.
And I definitely don't agree Trump has good intentions, but that's another topic.

Ok, I didn't expect anyone to respond to this, by virtue of the fact that it was left untouched for months..
Anyways, I think we talked about this before in another thread? How people may have the best of intentions, but don't realize the harm they're doing?

This one. Which an application of serious critical thinking to those bigotries would correct.

More so based on their irrational religious beliefs. They actually think they are expressing love for gays by preventing them from marrying and living in sin. They want to pray the gay away. If they only accept Jesus, they won't be gay anymore! At least, that's what the vast majority of those against gay marriage believe.

Concise. What if 50% of the world loved each other, but those that did love each other were all flesh eating cannibals who enjoyed human sacrifice?
