Sorry to be a little late to the party on this.
Anyhoo, Charlie Hebdo (y'know that publication that had a few of the workers killed just last year) recently made a comic about the harassment of refugees and that kid who died when he washed on the shore. Look I don't feel like explaining this so here are some links to get you up to speed:

Ok anyway the blokes at Charlie Hebdo made a comic about it. Look:
Now I'm not sure if my french is up to snuff, but I think it is basically saying what would've happen had the kid not die. Which is basically become a sexual harasser. Ohhh shit double wammy 3 stones one bird.

Now if you ask me, I personally don't care about offensive jokes. If anything, I lovem. So you may have expected I laughed at this comic. No, not really. Ok maybe a little chuckle but still. Anyway, lemme stray away for just a minute. I personally don't get offended that much, so offensive jokes don't really bother me. They only offend me when the joke sucks, since you're insulting my sense of humour. Hell, a joke could be targeted at me specifically, and if I find it funny, I'll laugh at myself. I mean, the jokes and shit about veganism on Twatter and shit I've grown apathetic towards (even the blokes who show off their meal or what they just shot for little reason) so whatever.

Anyway, I really don't care for shootings or tragedies if they don't impact me personally. Not that I want that, of course not. But when it happens, like the shootings in Paris a few months ago, I didn't really care for it. I mean, I will agree it's horrible, and something should be done about it, but I'm not going to feel anyway sadness or the like. Now you may be wondering "then why are you a vagen m8?", and that's obviously because when meat is consumed and presented, you're inadvertently contributing to it. Unless you have the guts to go through a dumpster if you're really desperate.

Anyway, people are setting a double standard. Last year everyone was like "yeah m9s show dem fukers freedum uv spech", and now is the opposite. Well what do you think?

The problem this time is that many have missed that the cartoon was meant sarcastically, in fact ridiculing superficial anti-refugee sentiments. Depicting a hateful idea not in order to champion it, but to mock the people who hold it, is a recurrent theme in Charlie Hebdo's work. Plain old French "second degré" satire.

All three cartoons on Aylan have been about turning a critical eye on Western society, not about disrespecting the kid. But hey, nobody ever claimed that Charlie Hebdo's humor was in good taste... They wanted to create controversy and it looks like they've done it again.

Also, criticizing an idea doesn't necessarily mean opposing the right to express it.

What people are saying: "I support their right to publish whatever cartoon they want, even if someone else or even I may criticize and disagree with their message sometimes."
What they're not saying: "I like and support the message of every cartoon they publish."

You can support freedom of speech without agreeing with every idea expressed.
