Martial arts - Our favorite clips

Post by Unknownfromheaven »

Its been a while since our discussion on martial arts topic and this topic did not came to be so i figured it was the time to do it.

Please post what you like.

Its really difficult for me to pick one, i also make my own choreographies and love most martial arts content a lot if they have a good choreography...yet this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE1ITQgB7fA is from bilang series..in which some XMA artists (extreme martial arts) post demos and reels with their work. I think this is what happens when Capoeira is combined with Tae Kwon Do...insane skills.

the XMA was promoted back in 2000' by Matt Mullins and Mike Chat with a documentary that was presented on Discovery Channel and later on National Geographic with other styles and episodes.

I wish you well and good health.

Looks like that video content might be blocked in a lot of countries. That's unfortunate.

What makes XMA special, in your opinion, compared to regular martial arts?

The guy in the video is a great gymnast, but to me not much more. I think any national level floor gymnast can learn to do similar with a few weeks training.

To me traditional martial arts styles are mostly bs. I appreciate them in an historical sense, but I don't hear much honesty from instructors of traditional styles. Most of them still claim that their styles are very effective styles of fighting although 22 years of mixed martial arts competitions have shown us otherwise.

I am a big fan of MMA. I watched the first 15 UFCs live on pay per view back in the day. I got ticked off when they introduced rules and stopped watching but about a year ago I decided to watch them all from the beginning. I probably have a few more years before I catch up to present day especially since I like watching the ultimate fighter series which takes a lot of time. It is fun studying the evolution of the sport. I tried to post clips of my favourite UFC moments but little of it is available on Youtube.

I think XMA tends to make one more active and focused, put in fun and great exercise, Learning some complex kicks is fun for whoever is in it :)

Its not bad sometimes to push the limits :)

Of course, i think its about the fighter, not the style. There are some who train for years and are able to fight that way, on the streets anyway, besides one who might not have training in some style of combat..so i think it can help a lot.

That's like saying the difference between and abacus and a calculator is based on the user. Sure, there are some bad ass abacus users who can beat a child with a calculator, but they'll never beat somebody with even moderate calculator experience who knows the key arrangement. One tool is inherently superior to another with an equivalent amount of training.

You know its not the same thing :) We are talking here about combat and most styles have similar principles. The moves can be different, but a skilled master can learn anything.

Jebus was right saying that every gymnast can learn this...because they already have a strong background on movement and skill.

I've heard this said many times in the martial arts world: "You should stop your quest of finding the perfect martial arts style, as in the end it only comes down to the individual." Imagine a high jump instructor saying the same thing: "It doesn't matter if you learn the fosbury flop, straddle style, or scissors jump, because in the end how high you jump will come down to how hard you train."
