Ethical Consumer

Post by miniboes »

Aside from being vegan, what do you do to be an ethical consumer?

Examples include:
- Using sustainably sourced paper
- Avoiding palm oil
- Buying fair trade
- Green/nuclear energy
- Public transport
- Avoiding products from countries/companies with bad human rights records

-I use too much paper, although I think most forestry for paper and lumber is sustainable.
-I avoid palm oil.
-I also avoid eating excessive fruits and veggies like certain youtubers (I keep to a lot of beans and grains, fruits and veggies are not the main course).
-Fair trade isn't helpful. I avoid fair trade products, since they can cause unintentional harm.
-I'd love more options in energy, unfortunately the consumer doesn't get a lot of choice in this (too bad antitrust laws don't kick in there more with respect to energy source).
-I mostly use public transit (though not currently)
-Avoiding products from certain countries probably isn't useful; trade with these countries infuses money into their economies, and encourages improvement (particularly Western brands operating manufacture out of these companies).
