Personally, I was scared of death and asked loved ones and my Father told me about spiritualism and know I believe in it.
How did you become religious and what's your religion? [For theists}

I was raised in a christian family: I learned christian concepts and some stories of the christian bible. I didn't go to church however. Eventually I made the believes my own, by questioning them and thinking for myself. I still call myself christian, but the more I learn, the more I figure out that I don't know shit

99 percent of religious people became religious because parents banged bullshit into their brains while they were still susceptible. Once the bullshit is ingrained it takes too much from the individual to start questioning the truth of it.
I am very curious about the one percent, who grew up atheist and became religious (very unusual) or those who changed religion (more common).
I was bombarded by religious bs in school, but fortunately my parents never talked about religion so I never took the bait.

I never got into religion but my mom did. So I will tell you her story. She was raised by a Christian family but, she never really liked it or believed in it. About a year ago she some how started to listen to Christian rock and said she "felt inner happiness". She thought that was god trying to talk to her and stuff.

My mother found Christ through her partner at the time. As I was a young teenager, I was dragged to church and other Christian events. For months I was against the idea of Christianity, but one day during a Christian family retreat something in me just snapped. Overwehlmingly, I felt like the idea of a God was as undeniable to me as the grass is green or the sky is blue (although, since then, I have understood that those facts aren't exactly set in stone either). Ever since then I've been trying to learn more about Christ.
But to add on to what Jebus said, I think that a common reason for atheist to convert is through relationships, I've seen it happen quite often, with my mother, but also others.

I've seen that happen too, but is it really genuine? Makes me think of George Costanza's conversion to Latvian Orthodox.

When it starts out, it may not be. But people often become the lies they tell. "Fake it til you make it". Apologists and philosophers have been advocating that for hundreds of years. As social animals, we tend to fall into line.
