Raspberry Pi Projects

Post by Neptual »

What new raspberry pi projects have you guys been working on?

Lately I've been trying my luck at making a more portable case than the 3D one that was created sometime ago. It's also been a pain at making a sustainable power source small enough and portable enough to work with it. I feel like I'm making an iPhone :/

Could someone explain this whole raspberry pi phenomenon? Isn't it some kind of homebrew mini computer that you can get to do different functions?

A raspberry pi is basically a mini-computer with a Linux based operating system.
A more in-depth explanation of it can be found here - http://www.raspberrypi.org/help/what-is-a-raspberry-pi/

The reason why so many people were going crazy over it was because it was a low cost machine that is simple to setup and has almost endless possibilities.

What are you doing with your raspberry pi? Do you have to be intimately knowledgable about coding and electronics (wiring, etc)?

Right now I'm currently doing my best to make it portable without using a lot of money/resources. There is a way to do so but owning a 3D printer isn't cheap. The most you'll have to know coding/electronics wise is to know how to embed a OS onto a SD card, know a thing or two about Linux and how to connect it to a monitor which is as simple as plugging a cord in.

Not really, you need to load the image of your choice to it and treat it as a normal mini PC. Since there are several Linux images out there for it, you can use those images to have a multimedia center, a simple home gateway/proxy, or other stuff like that.
One of the most interesting projects I have seen for it is this one:
