In case you are not familiar with Effective Altruism, I encourage you to watch this great little video: https://youtu.be/IZgItfi4eJ4
I have recently started my own donation log in the hope that it will inspire someone else: https://medium.com/@TheAnimalist/my-donation-log-628cc4d3c55b#.expwo6ndj

You donate quite a bit, that's great!
I like the argument about normalizing giving. At the worst, this is a good form of one-upmanship.
Do you have any thoughts on animal charity evaluators?

I didn't notice any to Mercy For Animals, the humane league, or Good Food Institute (Memphis meats is a good one, but isn't that a for-profit?).

It is, but it has a kickstarter campaign with a flexible goal, which practically means they're a for-profit that accepts donations.brimstoneSalad wrote:Memphis meats is a good one, but isn't that a for-profit?

I chose Animals Australia because I am Australian and I live in Australia. They are an outstanding charity based on Animal Charity Evaluators's assessment.
I have nothing but praises for Animal Charity Evaluators and the excellent, rigorous work they do.
I do not mind supporting private companies as well as not-for-profit. I explained my enthusiasm for cellular Agriculture here: https://medium.com/@TheAnimalist/cellular-agriculture-for-a-brighter-future-142058ff6d1a#.kyl526meb

I guess my philosophy is invest in private companies, and donate to charities. Of course I have nothing against capitalism, donation just seems odd since it's not tax deductible... and I'm not sure how they treat it. Whereas if my investment goes up in smoke, that IS a loss I can claim, and if it doesn't it'll make money which can then be donated or reinvested, or I can sell the shares (once they're profitable and don't need my money) and invest in another small vegan company that needs it.
