I swear, everybody always says that the next horrible thing related to Trump won't happen.
It's America. Anything can happen at this point, and the Trump situation doesn't convince you, then I don't really know what will.
No, he's not going to win the republican primaries!
No, he's not going to win the general election!
No, he's not actually going to keep campaign promises!
Well, he is. He did it. He's currently banning people from seven Muslim majority countries, even if they have green-cards, visas, etc..

The courts are already ruling against it. A judge just issued a stay, prohibiting deportation.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/28/politics/2-iraqis-file-lawsuit-after-being-detained-in-ny-due-to-travel-ban/
Basically what I said would happen.
That it would be political suicide if he tried, and that the courts would block it. A lot of Republicans are now turning against Trump because of this, and even religious leaders are speaking out against it now. Even Southern Baptists, who are a major part of the Republican base ( http://www.npr.org/2016/06/16/482268688/southern-baptists-split-with-trump-on-refugee-resettlement ).
Just remember: the worse Trump is, the more opposition he'll face from both sides over the next two years, the more states will be taken back by democrats in ongoing elections, and the more likely democrats will retake the legislative majority in two years. And , of course, the more likely he'll be voted out in four years, and we'll get somebody decent like Cory Booker.

You'd have yourself your first vegan president before the first female president. I wouldn't complain. Do you think trump will get himself impeached? I'm still not convinced he's not doing this as an experiment/prank to make a point.brimstoneSalad wrote:Cory Booker.

Part of it has been blocked - people with visas etc. can't be sent back, but Syrian refugees are banned indefinitely. That's basically a death sentence for thousands of people living in Syria under a brutal dictator and with a civil war.brimstoneSalad wrote:The courts are already ruling against it. Doesn't seem like many republicans are speaking out to me: http://www.latimes.com/politics/washington/la-na-trailguide-updates-outpouring-of-criticism-to-trump-s-1485634034-htmlstory.html
That's true, I guess, but he's not getting opposition from republicans on this issue - at least not republican politicians. Sure, some religious people like Southern Baptists may be against it, but it's still unlikely they're going to vote democrat for other reasons.
Just because Trump is doing things so bad that he won't be elected again in 2020 doesn't mean it's not terrible when he does those bad things.
I like Cory Booker for being vegan, but he's not really much of a progressive. He's miles better than Donald Trump, though.miniboes wrote: You'd have yourself your first vegan president before the first female president. I wouldn't complain. I hope Trump doesn't get impeached. Mike Pence is one of the few people who might be worse.

You should really stop using the young turks as your primary news source. They're ridiculously biased and at points very irrational

Do you actually have an argument against the points made in the video, or are you just going to say they're biased and irrational?miniboes wrote:You should really stop using the young turks as your primary news source. They're ridiculously biased and at points very irrational

I'm not refuting what you said about booker, I don't know much about him at all. I just notice you link to tyt very often. If you want, I can point to some examples of what I'm talking about when I say they're irrational. The most ridiculous one is Cenk sitting down with Sam Harris for 3 hours, still misunderstanding him, and continuing to propagate lies about Sam's beliefs.EquALLity wrote:Do you actually have an argument against the points made in the video, or are you just going to say they're biased and irrational?miniboes wrote:You should really stop using the young turks as your primary news source. I've seen that interview, and I don't agree with that interpretation.miniboes wrote:I'm not refuting what you said about booker, I don't know much about him at all. Re: Muslim Ban... It's Happening
Some principled republicans are now speaking out against the Executive Order, actually.
From John McCain's website:
From John McCain's website:
McCain and Graham wrote:Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released the following statement today on the President’s executive order on immigration:
“Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.
“It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.
“Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.
“Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”
