If IceCube gets offended by a white person using the word while it's always ok when a black person uses it, isn't he missing out on the context in question? Seems to me this is his weakness/problem that he needs to work on.

I heard about this last week, and I found a video of him "saying the n-word", but to me it didn't sound like the n-word. It sounded like "nigga", which is different.

Why is that relevant? Is "nigga" considered less offensive? I find the context more interesting. Did Bill Maher intend harm?

Yeah, completely less offensive. That's why it's used in rap music, whereas the n-word isn't. That's why black people use it with their friends, but they don't use the n-word.

Bill Maher had a black person on his show who said there was a difference, and says he uses "nigga" but not the n-word. Bill Maher joked that he doesn't use either one. So it's just kind of uncomfortable to some people when a white person says it because it's close to the n-word, but it's not at all the same.

Doesn't make any sense to me unless it is written language. This is how many Americans pronounce the er sound at the end of a word, i.e. trigga instead of trigger. For that reason it is difficult or impossible to hear the difference.

I think this is just a ridiculous way for people to try to justify the use of the word, i.e. "I didn't use the n-word, I said nigga."

I disagree, I think you can hear the difference, and from my experience most people recognize the difference. Which makes sense, because like I said many people who are black use "nigga" while they don't use the n-word.
