[Short Guide] How to NOT have your password guessed

Becoming safer on the internet is becoming progressively harder everyday.

I'm going to keep this guide short and simple. Chances are your password isn't strong enough.

The best way to prevent any entity from cracking your password (at least for the next century or so) is to have a 65 character password with your favorite quote/line in the beginning/middle/end.

For example a good password would be

You can use something like a random password generator to create passwords like these. I use http://passwordsgenerator.net/

You don't have to memorize it, but at least store it safely (and with autocompletion). There are tools for it, like 1Password. Web browsers are also getting better at storing your passwords.

This isn't a matter of someone putting a keylogger on your computer. If you want to prevent this simply have the NoScript plugin installed and be mindful of what you download.

With today's technology if someone really wants to find your password/information they can and it's been done before (as you can see with the thousands of eBay passwords being leaked, and also the Fappening). The only real way to prevent someone from finding out your password is to have a password like this, and change it constantly. I'm obviously not saying to use this method for all of your accounts, but using it if you have a Paypal account, eBay, Amazon, etc.

I hope we're gonna have some good alternative to passwords soon. As technology is getting better and more important it's also getting easier to guess passwords. I've heard of a service on a Planet Money podcast that encrypts everything you do and makes sure only your hardware has the code to decrypt it, that's pretty cool.

Yep, the ability to crack passwords increases together with Moore's law—although you're still dependent on security constrains of the system. And besides that, md5 is still used a lot and there are pretty big md5 decode databases (if you're able to get the md5 hash of someones password).

I used to guess neopet passwords back in 1999 when I was 9 hahaha! Those were the days, when a rainbow magic paintbrush made it all worth while.
