That is upsetting. I hate when comedy is used to deflect and ignore moral problems.miniboes wrote:Heh, I was just about to post another clip of LWT. Although I absolutely love the show, this one upset me.

John Oliver normally seems like a very rational and moral person, it is just one more of those cases. Speaking of those cases, I think I might email the Atheist Experience, I would be very interested to hear what Matt or some of the others think about this, as they all seem to be meat-eaters.brimstoneSalad wrote:That is upsetting. Well, sadly enough Dillahunty isn't particularly rational on this subject. See here (watch out, it's possible you're going to cry):miniboes wrote:I would be very interested to hear what Matt or some of the others think about this, as they all seem to be meat-eaters
Ouch, that was some serious ignorance on nutrition. Sounds like he buys into the conspiracy theory nuttery on paleo diets.Volenta wrote: Well, sadly enough Dillahunty isn't particularly rational on this subject. See here (watch out, it's possible you're going to cry):

I recently saw someone else call in about veganism (but Matt wasn't present), but that didn't end so well either.brimstoneSalad wrote:Anybody in the states, with a phone?
Yeah, it's hard to do that when you're on the spot like that. Hindsight is 20/20.Volenta wrote:It's sad the caller didn't point out all the mistakes he and Tracy were making. Multiple naturalistic fallacies, speciesism endorsement, false information on nutrition and health (somewhat stated like it's an opinion): it's all in there.
Do you have a link?Volenta wrote: I recently saw someone else call in about veganism (but Matt wasn't present), but that didn't end so well either.
Nope, I'm an international person of mystery.Volenta wrote: Aren't you living in the states by the way? I'm sure you can handle him about this.
Well, it's not that hard to point out that because we evolved a particular way, we can't know something to be healthy. You actually have to study that through the use of science, and Dillahunty should know that. He's essentially rejecting science because it doesn't seem to fit with an intuition he already has.brimstoneSalad wrote:I don't know if I would have been able to reply out of shock.

Oh, I really didn't know. You're regularly citing articles and government stuff from the USA and things like that, so I made a wrong assumption there.brimstoneSalad wrote:Nope, I'm an international person of mystery.
