insight on eggs

Post by tubyn »

hello! ive been thinking about this subject and i want to bring it up for you to give your insight on this as well:
chickens lay unfertilised eggs everyday or every few days, depending on the chicken, in hope to form a dozen of them, then she will stop laying eggs and, instead, sit on and care for them. the chicken will lay eggs even if she has perviously mated with a rooster or not, but if she didnt, then those eggs arent fertilised.
my question is: in scenario where a person has and cares for chickens and dont have roosters, would be moral for that person to consume the eggs, knowing there isnt any life in them?
thank you for your answers! stay safe!

A couple thoughts:

- Depends on where the chickens came from (you could be indirectly supporting the egg industry).
- Chickens instinctively lay more eggs when their eggs are taken away from them. So when we take eggs away, we’re encouraging them to lay more eggs. This can cause health problems and reduce life expectancy.
- The way we view chickens, you're still exploiting them for food. It's an exchange, not a loving relationship. You wouldn't rescue a dog and expect them to produce food for you.

it's worth noting that chickens have been bred by humans to produce eggs rapidly. their original menstrual cycle was much more similar to humans (monthly). I would consider eating eggs in any way to be unethical.

One of the main problems related with eggs production is that males and females are born in equal amounts and usually the males are killed.
