Dear Fellow Aspirants,
I am Anand from India an agnostic strongly inclined towards atheism. I was once strictly vegan when I had alternates to dairy available. But after moving to a small town with no alternates to dairy available I am not a vegan strictly at this stage but I am aspiring to become strictly vegan again.

Welcome Anand!
I'm glad you've joined us.
I'm a little surprised there aren't dairy alternatives. What are you looking for in particular, and what do you use the dairy for? Maybe we can give some suggestions.

I need alternates for buttermilk/curd. I have stopped consuming milk for breakfast cereals / coffee. Are there alternates for buttermilk/curd? Another member in this group just wrote to me about nut grinder to extract almond milk. I will try that for milk. But any alternate for buttermilk will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Anand,
For curd you can use the same nut or soy based milk and ferment it with a vegan starter culture. In India I think vibact is available in pharmacies, you just add it to the mylk, incubate overnight for 24h at room temperature and the next day its done.

Any high protein liquid will generally curdle if you add a little acid to it.
What exactly are you using buttermilk or curd for? I could help more if I know the use.
The typical vegan replacement is soy milk with a little bit of vinegar added to it, and stirred for a few seconds as it thickens.
A nut based milk would work too.
Rice milk would probably not work.
