There's a minimum post count. Once you're not a newbie anymore you can. The reason is that links are allowed in signatures.

Ah ok. Thank you. I figured. I am a budding Forum op on another forum and have allowed signatures for all members. Maybe I should go in to the settings there and only allow it for Those with more than 10 or so posts.

That's a good idea. We also make it so links don't parse here. It keeps down on the spam.
If spammers can't link, they're a lot less likely to go through the trouble of registering and posting.

Once you hit 50 posts the option will open up. Although they just changed the forum, so it might be different.

Good idea. I wonder if I can do the later one easily in Simple Machines forums... We have had a few Russian spammers. Easily blocked, though.
